TRACKING
PENGUINS WE HAVE FOLLOWED
191 41711
Born
December 1988, caught 46 times, had same partner 71917 all his life, raised 5
sets of two chicks, lives at O.5.1. His burrow was filled with debris after the
February storm but we cleaned it out for him and he is still living there.
2005/6
He
was in his burrow with a partner in May but evaded all attempts of capture.
We
have seen 41711 a few times during the year. One chick was seen in the burrow
but unfortunately his long time partner 71917 was hit by a rock December. We
saw the chick almost fully fledged a month later so he was feeding it. Since
then he seems to have moved into a more secure burrow next to has old one and
we have been unable to catch him.
2006-7
We only caught 41711 once and that was in July 2006. He was still
there for a while because he would hide from us and cackle when we had gone
past his burrow. I thought he had died from old age but there were a lot of
feathers in his burrow in March which indicates either he has been around or
another penguin is using his burrow.
2007-8
41711 has not been seen or heard this year I think he has finally
passed on.
Female
